Ben Ismail (b.1995) is a Tunisian artist based in London. Trained in Anthropology, Visual Arts and Theatre, her career has moved fluidly between acting, filmmaking, and painting. Ben Ismail works by layering oil pastels onto acrylic/oil paint.

Her work explores the politics of gathering and the pursuit of joy as a form of resistance. Ben Ismail believes there is a deep wisdom in simple, spontaneous gatherings, and a quiet radicalism in coming together and finding joy in the midst of a consistently violent world. Her work is rooted in the belief that art should be tender, open, and unpretentious. Against the isolating logic of late capitalism, where efficiency and self-interest dominate, she depicts spaces that invite us to slow down, gather, and rest.
